RED TAG A/C CDI unit with adjustable/switchable rev limiter from 3000 rpm right up to 13,000 rpm, changed the casing so there not as wide as the 90 degree plug out the side, 5, 6 Chinese or 6 pin Honda options. 10 degrees starting 20 idle ramping up to 36 degrees, we have backed off the advance as we found it stifles the toque curve at 38, this means they have the full advantage to pull for longer before the BHP takes over.

Choice of plugs 6 pin Honda, 6 pin Chinese or 5 Pin see drop down menu.

5 & 6 China Pin we supply a jumper cable to convert.

We made the units in a more compact shape and size rather than the L section with 90 degree plug.

Works with Flywheel 88mm 108mm with 12mm to 15mm triggers

Rev limiter incorporated:

  • The unit has a pair of wires coming out of the unit. Connect these to engage the rev limiter, now you can control on the brass screw
  • Leave the wires unconnected to allow free revving.
  • The small brass screw on the side of the unit limits the max revs from 3000 RPM to 13000 RPM; Turn clock wise to increase RPM & Anti clock to reduce RPM
  • Choice of switch to engage or disengage rev on demand.

 

Why have we made this unit:

  • Some performance engines will go into valve bounce at around 12000 RPM during shifting up the gears. This may cause a major flat spot in the start of the next gear rev range due to turbulence in the intake from the valve bounce, so if we set the rev limiter to cut in 200 rpm before the bounce you can avoid this. It eliminates any turbulence in the intake avoiding a flat spot when you get back on the gas.
  • No more burbling back out through the carb!
  • With the flick of a remote switch you can restrict your bike to 30 mph

 

Unlike a lot of standard or performance CDI's; This will keep the advance down for starting making the engine far less susceptible to kick back during starting.

 

Timing and advance info:

  • Safe start system retard.
  • Static 0 to 500 RPM 10 Degrees
  • 1st advance over 500 to 2000 RPM 20 Degrees
  • 2nd Advance over 2000 to 3000 RPM ramping up to 38 degrees overall advance from idle 20 Degrees
  • Advance and static is relevant to pulse coil gap and size of trigger.
  • Recommended pulse coil gap 1mm to 1.5mm

Please take note A/C Digital CDI are classed as a consumable item,  not a life time product, so recommend carrying a spare or changing if you notice slight miss fires.

For extra protection from Damage you can run a CR7HSA spark plug with suppressed cap. How ever some engines won’t start on a resister plug.

 

PLEASE NOTE

THE CDI REQUIRES RUBBER MOUNTING TO ENSURE LONGEVITY. THESE RUBBER STRIPS ARE OK. ALTERNATIVELY WE HAVE HIGH DENSITY FOAM PADS THAT MAY SUIT YOUR NEEDS.

It is best to use an old inner tube or rubber bloc and cable tie out the way so none of the red case can vibrate on anything, as this will cause the processor to fail.

NOT FOR USE WITH INNER ROTORS

Few important notes about stators and flywheels

This unit will work with most of the stators on the market, however some exciter coils are not wound in the same way and will not excite the CDI due to low voltage or spikes, causing not to rev or misfires.

We have found 2 identical stators doing different things.

to advance so we don’t recommend running with these. Will work with 88mm, 108mm, 110mm flywheels as long as the trigger length is 12mm to 15mm long. The round button 8mm and 6mm z190 trigger will not work with this cdi just wont rev due to no advance.

These CDI units are not fully water proof, water can get past the pins via the plug, so make sure it is out of any direct water spray.

Why has my CDI failed after a short while.” Vibrations are the biggest killer for the Digital CDI units” if the case is touching something metal it can cause them to fail, make sure you protect the unit with rubber to protect it from touching anything.

All CDI units are bench tested to test advance and loadings.
